Sustainability and the Environment at Mythe Barn

Sustainability and the environment

Here at Mythe Barn we are lucky enough to be surrounded by wonderful countryside, which we want to protect for future generations to enjoy. We all know that the environment is precious and it’s important that we all do our bit. As a green venue, we love to see the flowers blossoming in spring, the bees visiting in summer and the pheasants racing cars down the drive in autumn! Mythe Barn just wouldn’t be the same without the beautiful environment it’s set in.

In 2007, we planted 12,000 trees over 20 acres to help offset our carbon emissions and we plan to keep this going. The trees around Mythe Barn don’t just keep our air fresh and offset our carbon emissions but they become homes for hundreds of insects and wildlife, protecting the diversity of our native species. They also look beautiful year-round, whether green and leafy in the spring or a flash of firey colours in the autumn.

At Mythe Barn, we have a zero-landfill policy on all waste, to prevent filling the planet with rubbish and polluting the oceans with plastic. In 2019, we took a pledge as part of the Meeting Industry Association’s #20PercentLess initiative, to reduce all plastics by 20% each year for the next 5 years. We believe in protecting our environment and the wildlife who make it their homes and we’re happy to do all we can to support these initiatives.

2015 saw work completed installing a 126kw solar panel system to produce green energy, with 500 solar panels producing more electricity than needed at Mythe Barn. Surplus electricity is fed back into the grid. We always ensure that we achieve the small things. Office procedures include minimising paper and ink use, switching off electrical items when not in use and closing external doors to prevent heat loss.

Our on-site catering team also do their bit, sourcing local ingredients where possible. Not only does this support local, sustainable providers but also cuts food transportation emissions. And the amazing food they create tastes all the better for it!
